The short answer
For a background check through Accurate Background, use the candidate instructions associated with your own invitation and report. Accurate says its candidate portal supports completing forms, providing requested documents and tracking screening status. Ask the hiring company or the provider’s official support route if you cannot identify the correct account.
There is no single completion time for every check. The searches ordered, record availability and any outstanding request can affect timing. A report status does not by itself establish the employer’s hiring decision.
This is independent guidance for US candidates. Background Check Explained is not Accurate and cannot access your report or accept screening documents.
How do I check my Accurate background check status?
Find the invitation or instructions for your particular screening. Confirm the hiring organization and reporting company before entering sensitive information. Sign in through the verified candidate route identified for your case; do not assume a customer login or a portal for a different screening program applies.
Once inside, look for a specific request, the screening component still underway and any estimate shown. If the invitation is missing or unexpected, contact the employer through a known channel and ask it to confirm the provider and the correct next step. Accurate’s candidate support page for its OTES route describes support for that program; use the contact route matching your own paperwork.
How long does an Accurate background check take?
Timing varies with the checks requested and the sources contacted. An employment verification, criminal search and education check can take different amounts of time. If you are waiting, ask whether there is a particular outstanding item or an action needed from you. An estimated date is not a promise and does not necessarily include the employer’s subsequent review.
For common reasons a check takes longer, see background-check delays. A pending status is not itself proof that you failed; ask the employer about its decision or start date.
What if Accurate requests a document?
Check exactly what is requested and how to submit it. For employment dates, a document may support one fact without proving another: a W-2 can show a payer for a tax year but does not by itself prove the exact first or last day worked. Ask what evidence is accepted and whether unnecessary details can be redacted. Use the verified submission route, not a public forum or an unverified email.

How do I dispute a report error?
First confirm that Accurate prepared the report, and identify the exact item you believe is inaccurate or incomplete. Accurate’s dispute page describes its reinvestigation process and says additional supporting information may help but is not required to initiate a dispute. Keep a copy of your request and follow current instructions for your report.
A screening company investigates report accuracy; the hiring company makes the employment decision. Respond separately to any employer notice and keep track of its stated response date. The FTC explains candidate rights; our errors guide helps organize the specific issue.
Frequently asked questions
Does a delay mean I failed?
No. A delay alone does not establish a report finding or hiring decision. Ask which step remains outstanding and whether you need to respond.
Can Background Check Explained look up my Accurate report?
No. Use the verified provider or hiring-company channel associated with your own case. Do not send your Social Security number or report to this site.
Your next step
Check your invitation and any outstanding request. Contact the verified provider about screening progress and the hiring company about its decision or start date.
