The short answer
For an Uber driver or delivery background check, first identify which company is handling your report. Uber says it uses providers including Checkr, HireRight and Samba Safety. Check your Uber account and the provider’s instructions for the status or requests for more information. A completed report may still need Uber’s review before an eligibility decision.
Uber says its checks typically take three to five business days in its stalled-check guidance; its screening overview says to expect up to seven business days and notes that some checks take longer. These are provider estimates, not guarantees, and Uber may need additional time after a report is complete.
How do you check your Uber background check status?
- Check your Uber account and the emails associated with your application for the name of the screening provider and any outstanding request.
- If Checkr is handling the report, use its candidate portal through the official site to check status or request a report. Use the information associated with the application, and verify the site before entering sensitive details.
- If HireRight or Samba Safety is handling your check, follow the instructions in your Uber account. Uber’s US status guidance directs candidates to contact Uber through their account for those providers.
- If the report is complete but your account still needs review, ask Uber about the eligibility decision. The screening provider and Uber have different roles.
If the Checkr portal cannot find your application, check for typos and verify which provider was assigned. A missing portal record does not by itself mean you failed.
Why might an Uber background check be delayed?
Uber identifies missing information and difficulty verifying driving history as possible reasons for delay. Checkr also notes that local processes or court access can affect timing. Check your inbox and spam folder for an actual request, but do not assume every delay has the same cause.
If documents are requested, confirm the recipient and upload method. Ask exactly what is missing before sending additional records. See secure document submission for privacy steps.
What does “suspended” or “under review” mean?
Checkr says a suspended report can mean it needs additional information to complete the report. Follow its specific notification. If it remains suspended after you respond, Checkr directs Uber candidates to Uber Support for possible next steps; see Checkr’s Uber guidance.
Uber’s under-review guidance describes a situation where Checkr has completed the report and Uber is reviewing it. The message displayed in your own account controls what you should ask about; don’t assume that every provider uses identical labels or that “complete” means approved.
What if the report is inaccurate?
Request a copy from the reporting company and identify the specific error, such as a record belonging to someone else or an incorrect disposition. Dispute inaccurate or incomplete information with the company that prepared the report and inform Uber if appropriate. Checkr explains its process in its candidate dispute guidance. Our background-check errors guide helps you organize the information.
If the report is accurate but you disagree with Uber’s eligibility decision, ask Uber about its review process. A dispute about a report’s accuracy is different from asking Uber to reconsider its decision; neither guarantees approval.
Frequently asked questions
Does Uber use only Checkr?
No. Uber identifies Checkr, HireRight and Samba Safety as US screening providers. Check the instructions for your own application.
Does a completed background report mean I can drive?
Not necessarily. Uber may need additional time to review the completed report and make its eligibility decision.
Can I make the background check finish faster?
Respond promptly to legitimate requests and make sure submitted information is accurate. Uber says it cannot speed up the screening process; court or other external delays may remain outside your control.
Your next step
Identify your assigned screening provider, check for an outstanding request and ask the right party about the specific step: the reporting company for a report error, or Uber for its eligibility review.
